Skeet was born in Hemingford, NE to Russell and Phoebe (Hawk) McKillip. He had a brother, Stanley McKillip. He was married to Josephine L. Jines and had two sons, Dennis and Richard; and a daughter Sandy. Skeet moved to Whitman, NE with his family where he grew up. It was here that he became interested in saddle bronc riding.
Skeet was a rancher raising cattle and horses and he contracted haying up to his death in 1993.
During his rodeo career he won buckles and cash. He became 12th in the World for saddle bronc riding. But in the Sandhills everyone said he was number one. He never wanted to leave the Sandhills, he said it was home!
