Margaret Hawkins was born December 23, 1927 as Nellie Margaret Chamberlain. She was the oldest sibling to Walter and Beverly born to James L. and Irma Kunkel Chamberlain. She ranched and raised horses on the Chamberlain ranch southwest of North Platte prior to her marriage to Virgil Hawkins of Arthur. Their children are Virgilene Karissa and Virgil James Hawkins. Margaret and her children have kept the Hawkins ranch intact since Virgil’s death in 1977.
