At the age of 16, Wayne started working on neighboring ranches. In 1953, he enlisted in to the U.S. Army. He served two years in France and Germany.
In 1955, he returned home and worked on the Big Creek Ranch, north of Mullen and for Franke Construction Company.
Wayne would marry Janet McIntosh in 1956. After they were married Wayne and Janet began working for the Jim Snyder Ranch, which was located 20 miles South of Whitman.
They would later spend a few years working for the Glen Coble Ranch.
It was in 1963 when they moved 28 miles north of Mullen to the Joe Boyer Ranch. Wayne and Janet managed the ranch for 30 years. Even though the ranch changed owners four times throughout the years, but Wayne and Janet were asked to stay and continue to run the ranch every time.
Wayne and Janet raised their four children (Marvin, Alan, Loren, and Karen) all at the ranch.
Wayne also had a love for the sport of rodeo. He was a pick-up man for Stitcha Rodeo Company and S & J Rodeo Company. Wayne also loved to haze steers for his sons and other kids in high school rodeos.
He was very active in the local high school rodeo club and the Mullen roping club. It was a family affair on Wednesday and Sundays for the Gorsuch’s at the ropings.
Wayne’s kids and grandkids have all been very successful in the rodeo arena. From high school and college rodeos all the way up to PRCA and the NFR they have excelled at all levels. Wayne is very proud of his children, grandchildren, and great grandkids.
In 1994 Wayne and Janet moved to Alliance, Nebraska.
Today, at the age of 82, Wayne still ropes and rides on his 8 year old palomino gelding, Scooter.
Wayne has been a director on the Mullen High School Rodeo Club, Director on the Mullen Roping Club, on the School Board for the Country School District 77, Member of the Sheriff’s Posse in Mullen and a 4-H Horse Leader.
