Larry P. Cleveland

Larry was born on November 24, 1936 to Lee and Catherine Cleveland. He was raised on the family farm, along with his seven siblings, north east of McGrew, NE, nestled just west of Chimney Rock. He attended country school for his elementary school years and then attended and boarded in Harrisburg, NE where he graduated in 1954 from high school. He accelerated in sports, music and shenanigans. He worked not only on the family farm but most summers and weekends for Red McKillip of Redington, NE. He moved to the Sandhills not long after graduating and began his career for George Manning. In 1958 he married Linda Applegarth. They moved to the Harvey Schufeldt ranch south of Whitman, NE. In 1959, their first child, Kim, was born followed by Paul and Steve. In 1964, they moved to Hyannis where he worked for Consolidated Telephone. He spent most of his working years as foreman of Wearin Brothers Pitchfork Ranch from 1968-1996. While there, their daughter Kelli was born. After leaving there he managed the Lynch Ranch, OLO Ranch and is sought after for day work by area ranchers where he is respected for his work ethic, knowledge and experience.
He trained numerous team roping and cutting horses, several of those qualifying for the NHSR Finals. He served as an NSRA Director, Quarter Horse Association, Old Timers Rodeo, Western NE Cutting Association (WNCA) Vice President and Director; NCHA; CHAN; Round Lake Roping Club; He was the 1986 Non Pro Cutting Horse Champion where he won a saddle; an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Knights of Columbus Rodeo Organizer; and long time member of All Saints Catholic Church.
