Vern Whitaker

1911-1987

Vern Whitaker started rodeoing at Wild West Shows in 1929. He was a rodeo cowboy in Nebraska, South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota, and throughout the rest of the Midwest in the 30’s, 40’s, 50’s and 60’s.

Vern was a member of the Cowboys Turtle Association and Rodeo Cowboys Association. He competed in calf roping, steer wrestling, and saddle bronc riding.

Vern was noted for always having a good bulldogging team that other contestants used. He was also known for helping several young men get started in rodeo.
