Hubert was born Mary 3, 1908 in McCool Junction, NE to Homer and Bird Finney. He has a brother Robert. Hubert was married to Hazelle and they had Mike and Joe. His grandchildren include Wade, Tracy and Aaron. Mike and his family operate the home place and Joe has a ranch in Sioux County.
Hubert graduated from Thedford High School in 1926. He worked in the lumberyard in Seneca for a period of time. In the 1930's he worked as a ranch hand in the Hyannis-Ashby area for Abbotts, JHL and George Peterson among others. In the late 1930's he became foreman for the John Swift ranch south of Thedford, Nebraska.
He was inducted into the army in October 1942 and was discharged in October 1945. He received the Purple Heart for wounds received in the Battle of the Bulge.
Hubert and Hazelle leased a small ranch sought of Seneca in 1946 and purchased it in 1950. They were able to add some parcels to this through the years.
Hubert was named Cattleman of the Year by the Nebraska Stock Growers Association in 1987. The ranch received the Conservation Award from the SCS in 1962. He was a member of the Board of Education and served on the Selective Service Board. He belonged to the Nebraska and National Cattlemen's Association and was a member of the UCC Church. Hubert was a member of the AQHA and raised registered quarter horses for over 40 years.
Hubert passed away on October 28, 2004.
